Hudson River Fishermen’s Association

Scholarship Application

The HRFA has announced its new short form scholarship application.  The new application is only two (2) pages, and we hope more members will encourage their children and grandchildren to apply.  Over the last few years, the HRFA has averaged approximately $20,000.00 in scholarships.  However, the number and amount of scholarships, which is primarily dependent upon our success with our tournament schedule, was reduced to reflect the loss of revenue and the worsening economy.  For Graduating Seniors, the HRFA is offering four (4) scholarships of Five Hundred Dollars each.

Students and parents can download the new application from   or  HRFA.US.  Seniors must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale or equivalent to be considered.   To be successful, a senior must plan to enroll in an accredited two or four year college or university the following Fall.  One of the big changes this year is the applicant does not need demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA application process and supplying the student aid report, SAR response letter.  No financial data is required.  Membership in the HRFA will also be weighted differently in this application.  Notably this year, membership has its privilege.

For more information regarding the scholarship, please call Jim Campbell at 201-981-5484 or e-mail at The application deadline is May 15, and all applications must be sent to our official address, HRFA Scholarship, P.O. Box 421, Cresskill, NJ 07626.

Note: If someone filed the old application already, we will accept and modify that application.  There is no need to re-file with the new short form.

For graduating seniors, the HRFA

offers scholarships up to Five Hundred Dollars. Scholarship

awards will be presented at our July meeting, always the

second Tuesday of each month. This year like last year, we are

offering scholarships totaling $2000.00.

Along with the scholarships that the HRFA

does each spring. West Marine wants our members

to know that they also provide scholarships for our

kids as they move on in life. Ivan Garcia, manager

of the West Marine store in Lodi has informed me

that his corporation has a link on their website that

provides information for possible candidates for

this program. Go to and go

to the very bottom of the home page under the Blue

Future Heading. More specifically, go to the grants

and sponsorships link. West Marine is a major

sponsor for the HRFA. Ivan also attends many

meetings of the club and if you see him there or in

his store, give him a thanks for all he and West

Marine has done for our club and its members.
