Chopper Down in the East River!   HRFA to the Rescue!   6-17-2005

12/31/05 Fishin Mission Lower Harbor Bass!

Ofcourse I did! Fished the NY Harbor Areas. Landed 32 schoolie stripers. But dropped a lot more. All on the small side 15" --- 22" Tagged 10 of them. Winds were calm, but AM snow squalls were annoying. Was pretty cold out too! Air 29 -- 34 degrees. Water temps were up a few degrees from last week 40 -- 43 degrees. Only fished 1/2 a day.   Once again me and Howie Leeman were the only 2 lunatics out there. Tried to beat snowstorm, but it started just as I got to ramp. Me thinks the "Fat Lady" is now singging! Fingers are all split open from lipping fish! Attaching a pic of one of the schoolies Tagged and ready for release. Many Tight Lines to All, and a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!

11/20/05 Fishin' Mission

Wind-Stripers-Blues and a BIRD!

Fished Sunday 11/20/05 Left in the early am, still dark out. Got out side Rairitan Bay, of course wind starts howling. Still found birds working. Caught about a dozen stripers to 28". Captain Glenn Blank was along side jigging away! Then after that slowed, did a sucidal run in the waves towards the Rockaways, found more birds working. Club member Glenn Cinelli on his "Cast Iron" was jigging some nice blues on his homemade lures. He gave me one and my daughter said it was too nice to use, so it sits on my garage wall. Caught some more blues there too. Then I got a tip from one of the expert flyrodders, I correspond with, he sent me way out towards Fort Tilden, off the Rockaways. Me and Capt. Blank ran all the way there and found the "mother load" of bass and blues. Not big, to 26" but lots of action. While out there several miles off shore, a small bird that couldn't fly yet, seemed exhausted, he was try to hold on to my motor. I tried to grab him, but couldn't. So I netted him. He was walking around my boat for hours. As I got close to shore I let him go. I attached a picture of him! I split up with Glenn Blank, who fished along with Captain Ralph Roth. They both scored bass over 40 inches! Ralph's weighed 32 pounds. Tagged many fish. Not bad day considering the small craft warnings.

Tight Lines to All!

Fished on Sunday, 11/20/05.  Worked the Diamond Reef area again.  The water temp dropped and it was real murky.  Drifting didn't produce.  Capt. Johnny Z. put us on nice schoolies to 26" (released) in shallow, fast moving water.  He and I caught between 6 to 7 each.

Nick had a double a striper on the teaser and a blue on the bucktail. Both fish were pulling so hard he actually broke his pole.
The weather was beautiful and the fisherman were out in force the fleet was huge but everyone had a great time.

Fished the outgoing in the East River. We got one on our very first drift, nice striper 37". Moved around a bit and landed in one spot where Christian hooked into a monster, we nwver saw it but it was fiving him the fight of a lifetime. Then ..pop....
Next drift I thought I had bottom until bottom began pulling back and now for the next 15 minutes it was Bass v. Rich. One time it almost pulled the rod out of my had.. Well with Christian at the net and my rod doubled over we pulled in the largest fish of my carrer a 42" sideliner. I'm still smiling.
On our way back we were having some engine problems and it started pouring and fog rolled in like pea soup and boy did I thimk we were in trouble.
We pulled into the 23d St. Marina to call Boat USA for a tow as we were creeping along. Well the attendent at the Marina wanted us to turn in our registration as soon as we touched dock and harrassed us while we made a call on my cell phone -- boy no courtesy for a mariner in trouble  but the worst was yet to come. We did make the call to Boat USA and after an hour they said they couldn't get anyone to come get us and the Coast Guard would be glad to tow us to "Safe Harbor" guess where -- yeah the 23rd St Marina-- well a no thanks and we putt putted up river and across the Hudson and we had perfect weather. Just as we docked at Hazzards all hell broke lose with wind and rain, we were amazed at how fortunate we were.

I am curious has anyone else had a hard time with Boat USA.. this was the first time I needed them and they were utterly useless, I think I am switching to Sea Tow.

Aboard the "Nuthin' Fancy" we hunted the great  white ..... oh wrong story.
Christian and I (Rich B) fished in the lower harbor. When we finally figured out which rig would do the trick we were into the weaks. The fish were there we just had to figure out how to entice them to the end of our lines.
When Christian put a spearing on I just had to laugh to myself (rookie) but seconds later when he landed a 20" weak I was laughing out my... while I asked Christian to pass me the spearing. Bang weak fish afer weak fish.. go figure.
Well be in the contest next week and you can bet I'll have a bag of spearing...you never know!!!

10/1/05  Anthony Carbone Piermont Pier

Went to Piermont  on Sunday morning at approx.11:30 am for a little fishing after stopping by  the outdoorsman for some bunker bait. I started fishing about 12:00 and within 1/2 hour I got a fierce hit that bent the pole in the spike and line started to peel out from my reel for a good 50 to 75 yards and I knew it was a nice size fish. after 10-15 minutes as I got it close to shore he went airborne and spit the hook out, it was a bluefish of about 6 to 8 pounds. I rebaited and within half an hour the same thing happened except this one cut my leader of about 30/40 lbs.   Re-rigged again with a wire line leader this time and got another hit as soon as the bait hit the water and I was in for the biggest fight yet, by now a crowd was gathered cheering me on, this fish refused to give up and kept peeling line out of my reel. after about 20 minutes he managed to jump in the air and shake the hook loose. No fish landed but had a great day of excitement.

Hey guys,

Another great weekend of fishing.  Finally got on the River again Saturday Oct 1, with Teddy  K.  We started out at diamond reef, but the tide was barley moving, so we hit the VZ bridge.  We had action all day lots of fluke still hanging around in the shallower water, tons of robins, some blues breaking water and lastly 2 keeper weaks.....

9/30/05  Chas Stamm & Chasbo East River Blues and Bass

Fished with one of our regular fishing friends from up River...Chasbo and his friend Ed.   Chasbo fishes the Hudson on a regular basis up in the Newburgh area.   Today he came out with me to experience some of the East River Bass and blues.   Chasbo and Ed were not disappointed at our first drift produced three nice fish at the same time.  Triples!  Two nice bass in the 15 pound range and one ten pound bluefish.  Birds were working for the first have of the tide which kept us pretty much in fish on every drift.  Moved down river to several other spots for a slow pick.  One more nice 15 pound bass at Dimond reef but the best was in the earlier part of the day.  Bucktails probably landed most of the fish with surface lures and metal producing as well...

This from my customers...

Ed, and I finally met Capt. Stamm, and what a day we had. I know it isn't fair for him to post a report here on one of his charters, but I can. We went to learn how to fish the east river, and harbor, and Capt. Stamm, "Got It Done!" I can't tell you exactly how many, or how big they were, but we had  of action all day. Top Water, Jigging, even my Timex got a hit. We caught both Big Blues, and Stripers. Oh, and Capt. Chas Stamm got a mussel, on an eel. That is a first. Christmas is coming, but for those who want some piping hot action before the holidays, "Take It To The River, Now!!" From one Chas, to another, Thank you Captain for a most memorable day. Fished all over the east River today but it was not like yesterday.  Had to work a lot harder for the fish today. We did manage to catch fish on most drifts but the bass were much smaller in size today. Bass were mostly in the 4 to 5 pound range and only one bluefish at ten pounds.  Bucktails and surface lures were the baits used today.

This was a good day on the water. Let me proclaim my  partner:
CHRISTIAN HOOPS HIT HIS FIRST OF MANY GRAND SLAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!
A feat I have never accomplished.
We fished by the VZ and had a problem with the porgies stripping our bait so I put on a Sabiki rig to fix their wagon and wound up catching two weekies on that. We would have had more on the Sabiki but it kept ripping out of their mouth. .We continued to catch weaks on jelly with sands.
Then we moved north and Christian skunked me where he hooked into four nice fish in twice as many drifts. Tops being a 10 pound blue and a 8 pound striper. Way to go Christian!

Two lovely days on the banks of the Hudson at Beacon NY with carp and cats at my beck and call! 3 cats and 1 carp 9/21; 4 carp and 1 cat 9/22. All the cats were channels - one 20", so maybe we have another large species taking up solid residence in the River. One fellow told me he got a 6 lb. channel, I keep hearing of similar sizes in mid-river, and I entered a 4.11 from Peekskill in last year's contest.

We are 12 hours ahead so as I type this it is 12:30 PM Sunday afternoon and still Sat night at your end.

great but we mangaged about 1 fish every other drift or so. Ended the day
with about 6-7 bass and a bunch of blues. Nice day on the water accept for
the fact that the Hudson river was shut down from the battery up due to a
power boat race making it impossible for me to get back to my dock until
after 4 oclock.

9/10/05  Chas Stamm & Joe Curvino East River NYC

Joe and I fished the East River again today.  Not only is it a short run for us...and has the best fishing around...but with the price of fuel, it's the most economical spot we can reach by boat.  Anyway.. we got about ten fish each on this trip.  Bass and blues.  No big concentrations of birds working but we managed to have fish on each drift.  Bass up to around ten pounds and blues to 8.  A good day was had on bucktails on the bottom and "Charlie Rigs."  We fished only one tide today.  Incoming.

9/10/05 - Brian Horton - Salmon River, Pulaski NY.

9/6/2005  Tom Guyre Fluke

Chas,
Sorry to hear about the BREAK IN!  Hope those scum get theirs.
I fished the sea fox out of the highlands Saturday morning. Half day trip. I used a store bought weakfish rig with a float. It wasn't working. I switched up to the Charlie rig with a sand worm and started catching right away. After bringing in 3 keepers and one short, I replaced the sinker with a 6 oz. fluke ball and nailed a double. weakfish on the worm and a short flukie on the ball. I even got a porgy on that Charlie rig. It was a good day of catching. The pool winner was approx 5 lb.
weak caught on sand worm by the guy next to me.
Looking forward to the meeting on the 13th.
Till then wishing you smooth seas full of fish!

9/4/2005 Chas Stamm  Bigger bass and blues showing up

Fished the East River again today for some great bass and bluefish action.  The bass and the blues were all in the 6 to 8 pound range.  Much bettter than the 3 to 5 pounders we have been getting.

On a sour note, I went down to the Englewood Boat Basin  on Saturday to find my boat had been broken in to and all my rods and reels were stolen.  Had about 15 outfits taken.  All conventional gear.  They left the spinning outfits.  All my rods had "Chas Stamm" etched above the foregrip.  Anyone coming across any custom made rods with that name on them...I would like to buy them back. chas@hrfanj.org

8/30/2005  Wayne Geider & Leslie Shan Beijing China!

Hi, Al,

How is everything?  The famous fishing member of HRFANJ - Mr Wayne Geider arrived in Beijing yesterday (08/30). We did some fishing in a park this morning and caught 5 carps and 3 other fishes.

My daughter caught a nice one too. Take care!

8/29/2005  Ralph Roth 60 lb Wahoo & Dolphin HA bouy

Chas

that was a 60lb wahoo we caught on a cedar plug out at the HA bouy.it is a rare catch but a couple are caught each year.the water was 74 degrees.yesterday we went out to a deep water wreck had one nice cod among many shorts.trolling was unproductive but stopping on some floaters produced some hot action with mahia to 8lbs on light tackle.a very large shark gave us a thrill while we were catching the mahia.

Ralph   Waypoint Charters

Sunday 8-28-05 Jim B.

We got a nice early start out of Haverstraw 0630 and headed
south to Spyten Dyveil. Bridge tender said about a 15 min. wait which turned
into an hour and 15 min. Started chunking and bouncing Ava's at Hell's gate.
We worked our way down to the U.N. & Diamond and never got a bite! Not a
single nibble. No boats fishing which I thought was odd. As we were leaving
we saw True World Marine boat at Diamond. Switched over to fluking just
south of the Narrows and was able to put 4 legal fish in the box. Large
smelt with a longer squid strip was irresistible for the hungry flatties. We
got boarded by the Coast Guard and passed their spot inspection with flying
colors. Skies looked ominous over Key Port and we beat a hasty path back to
the barn. I gassed up in Englewood and looked around for Chas... not to be
seen. I sure hope I get in there next year. I dread the trip North to
Haverstraw with gas at $2.80. All in all a good day and back at home by 5:00
PM.

8/27/2005  Chas Stamm Lower Harbor Action.

Our day started late and missed much of the surface action.  We got down to the center of the harbor around 9:30 am. Met up with HRFA members Mark Strober ( Fishin Mission) , Glenn Blank. They had just finished fishing a great surface blitz of bass and bluefish.  Figures!  Our timing was poor.  We moved up in to the East River and found very few fish .  Several small bass and several small bluefish were the only fish to be had ths late morning.  Tip here is to get out there earlier!

Body of water - Hudson River   location - Beacon  NY
Using 15 pound test line and Corn Kernels & Bread Ball combo.
Water temp Unk. deg
Weather conditions Calm & Clear

Caught & released another at 1:00 PM. about 8 lbs., but no witness. Spawning season is over, but carp were erupting like cannon balls from the River - shallows and deeper/navigable areas all the time I was there - 9:30 to 4:00. Better than a fireworks display, and a great fishing resource - my new Penn Mag got a good workout. Mag . Witness to second fish says he only catches catfish and eels there. Hope I told him something useful - among other things, if you use worms, then perch, cats and eels will always beat the carp to it - that's why you use corn and bread/dough other fish pass up. Carp can dig in the bottom for worms and such - they graze- they don't have to out-race other fish to baits. Without rain, lower River may get saltier, and carp and channel cats may move up to Peekskill and farther north.

8/21/2005  Fishin Mission Mark Strober

Fished Sunday, weather man wrong as usual.  Caught most of the usual fish!  Few Stripers, ( non keeper size )  Loads of blues, few sea bass, lots of sea robins, large dog fish, few fluke most shorts.  Then  I had   3 yes 3 fish that total over 125 pounds!!!!!   Yes 3 Cow Nose Sting Rays.   They were hitting the jigs under the blues.   Fought better than  large stripers!   I'm attaching few pictures, which doesn't do the fish justice.   Bottomed out my 50# scale!!  Also check out what happenns to your net when you try and net one of these monsters.   Can you guys top 3 fish over 125#  INSHORE!!!

8/21/2005  Chas Stamm East River Bass and Blues

Fished with the Sam Shurba party today for another mixed bag of bass and blues.   Not as many fish at the day before but enough to keep it interesting.   Bucktails on the bottom worked the best today.  All on the incoming tide.   All fish in the 6 to 8 pound range.

8/20/2005  Chas Stamm & Joe Curvino East River Blues

Fished with Joe Curvino today to some non stop action of small blues and striped bass in the East River of NYC.  Fished the incoming tide with birds working the entire tide.  Blues to 8 pounds would hit any bait we through at them.  An occasional striped bass in the 6 pound range kept our interest up. No need to buy any live or frozen bait as firetials, bucktails, surface lures and mid range repalas all worked.

8/16/05 Joe Mardello  Bass & Blues

Chas:  I took my daughter fishing for stripers and bluefish on 8/16/05. We fished the lower harbor the last 3 hours of the out going tide. We had a phenomenal day, 24 bass up to 32 inches and 18 blues up to 28 inches. Used home made surgical tubing in yellow for the bass and rattle trap top water for the blues. The heat wave broke so we had a nice comfortable day on the water.  Joe The 3 J’s.

Chas: I don’t want to sound like a broken record but I was out fishing in Ambrose channel again on Saturday 7/23/05. I caught the twin brother of  the fluke that I caught last week, this one was 28 inches and 8 lbs. Conditions were tough for fishing, strong winds and a strong tide, weather wise it was a nice day to be out on the water. Got about 18 fluke, two of them keepers 28 inches and 19 inches, the rest were all in the 17 inch range.  Joe The 3j’s.

7/21/05 Vz Bridge Tom Guyre

Hi Capt. Chas & hrfa gang,
I am new to fishing the Hudson by boat. but I had a great trip last Thurs. 7-21.I'm the proud owner of "The Hungry Beast"
She is a 1966 16'Glasspar Gold Cup, with a 1971 evinrude lark 50. She is the featured boat this month @
http://www.classicglasspars.com/members%20boats/east/guyre/guyre.htm

Thursday was my first time going south under the Vz.

Love your site and plan to be a member real soon.
Great job in the east river. Those guys you saved should buy you as many PFD's as you want.
Fantastic trip to Hoffman Island & AMBROES CHANNEL!
One hour from Secaucus by boat.
My buddy John and I caught at least 20 Fluke each with 5 keepers. Using squid & Killies.
One baby striper 22 inch (I'll look for him next year), and a right size blue.
Here's my photo log.
Thanks for all you do.
Sincerely

7/17/2005 Joe Nardello  Fluke

Chas:  I was out fishing in the Ambrose channel on Saturday 7/16/05. When I left the dock in Jersey City at 2:00 p.m. it looked like rain but looking towards the V.Z. it looked better, one of the guys at the dock said don’t go it looks like rain also there’s a south wind you’re not going to catch anything I just looked at him and left. When I got out there the sun came out and it turned out to be a decent afternoon. I fished 2 ½ hrs and wound up with 20 fluke, 8 of them keepers and only 5 coming home with me, the biggest fish was 27 ½ inches and weighed close to 8 lbs. not bad for a few hours of fishing. Get out there and get those lines wet.  Joe The 3 J’s.

In turn, Chief Mate Buddy and his crew were busy netting fish all day long!

Youth angler Joe Johnston had High Hook honors of the day bagging eight fluke as he out fished his Uncle Chuck Mitchell. Other honorable catches went to Brendan Cardinal and his Dad Darren with ten fluke; the Savarese Family had fifteen fish; and Lexi Eckhart and Anthony Hunt combined their talents to land eleven fish.

7/3/05 Joe Nardello Lowe Harbor Blues

I was fishing the lower harbor on Sunday, July 3, 2005 for Bass and Blues.  Nothing was happening, so I went up river to the U.N.  Nothing was happening there, so I decided to go home.  On my way back down to the lower harbor, I saw birds diving and bait jumping out of the water.  I tied on a one-ounce rattle trap and started to catch bluefish after bluefish.  In about an hour-and-a-half, I wound up with about 37 fish from 22 to 28 inches.  A lot of fun!   When I was finished, my rattle trap had no more color – the chrome and blue back was completely gone, and the rattle trap was a beige color.  The fish were still slamming it, well go figure.  Joe The 3 J’s.

Kids these days just don't listen. Richie was feeling a bit sick aboard "The Hyper Striper" out of Highlands, it's a great charter.
So he decides to deadstick his pole while we're fishing for Blacks. Well we all know you just can't deadstick for Blacks. Just to prove his ole dad wrong he goes and catches the largest Black (5+ lbs) on the charter. Can't teach kids anything these days.

Not only does he get sick but he keeps fishing and then he goes and catches the largest Striper, to top it all off he catches the most fish as well.

Kids --- can't teach them nuthin'

6/26/05  Chas Stamm East River Bass & Blues

Went out Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday got nothing with the Alan Underwood group.  Odd day on the water where no mater what we tried, it was uncomfortable. Wind was against tide, fish were not around and it was hot as hell.   Nothing in any of my spots.  Went out the following day with Joe Curvino and we could not miss.   Bass...doubles on every drift up to 15 pounds.   Bluefish also in the same places.  Big bluefish chasing the bass up to the surface.  Kept the bass in the water and that brought the blues around. Sometimes you just can't figure this stuff out.

I took my brother-in-law and his son-in-law out for a day of fluke on the NanSea II.   We spent the day in NY waters so we were faced with a 17.5 inch limit, which really killed our day.  We had around 60 fluke come in the boat all day and the longest was 17.25 inches.  We would of had at least 3 or 4 keepers in NJ, so that's the last time I go for fluke in NY.  We had a beautiful day, lots of action, lots of laughs, and hamburgers for dinner.

John H and Uncle Joe went out on John's boat, the OKay 7, fishing both sides of Sandy Hook.  The good news was that there was a constant pick of fluke and very little garbage fish, only one skate and two sea robins all day.  The bad news was that besides the one 23 inch fluke we got, 15 or so others were shorts.  One fluke spit up some clam and John rigged that up, just to see, and it was taken by another fluke almost as soon as it hit the bottom.

On the ocean side we came across feeding blues so we also took a few of those home for the table.

Took my brother Frank out for his first fishing trip of the year.  He landed a 33 inch bass on the first troll after lines were in the water for 10 minutes.  The biggest fish he's ever caught.  A smaller bass came in on the next troll, a small blue on the next, then nothing for the rest of the day, like someone turned off the fish switch.

6/17/2005 Chas Stamm & Joe Curvino East River Helicopter Crash

Friday I was fishing in front of the UN building with Joe Curvino when a helicopter crashed
in front of us.
I got a "MAYDAY" out on the radio and went over to render assistance.   Found
the chopper upside down with people scrambling out.
Got my boat close enough to throw 6 life jackets out to the survivors who
were having trouble with the sinking fuselage and the 5 knot current.
Last flotation cushion we threw had a rope to it.
Managed to pull three survivors in to my boat before the marine police
arrived.  Dropped them off at the 23rd street marina.
No doubt in my mind that some of these guys would not have made it had we
not been there.
Sunday, the NY Daily News, George Steinbrenner and the NY Yankees held
"Heroes Day" for us.  sat in the Mayor's box next to the Yankee dugout and
got to meet all the players and coaches along with the radio and TV
announcers.  Had a long talk with Brian Cashman the general manager of the
Yankees.
Got a lot of signatures form the players.
A great day for one die-hard Yankee fan!

Usually drift along in my boat everyday 4 pm after work out in the Hudson.   Usually got out for an hour at a time. Just across the River from the Englewood Boat basin is the entrance to the Harlem River and the Spyton Duyvel Railroad Bridge.   Never really catch anything, just peacefull killing time.  Today got several small bluefish.  2 to 3 pounds, trolling white bucktails in front of the bridge. Great fun and very little fuel !  Good to see the blues that far up this early.

I took Rich and Chas's advice and went to Liberty State Park. I wasn't disapointed! The bunker was in thick right at the launch and the Blues were chasing them sporadically all over. We caught three, not really fast action but it was a great intro to this area. I also snagged some bunker for next time. My boat (16' Duranautic) can handle the harbor but a little chop and a lot of wind takes the fun out of it. If I pick and choose times and places I should have no problem. Thanks for the advice

John Hitchcock and Uncle Joe trolled Stretch 25 lures from Uncle Joe's boat, the NanSea II, in the East River and caught fish on almost every troll.  We wound up with eight stripers and nine blues.  Blues ranged from 2 to 5 pounds, stipers mostly in the 24 - 26 inch range, one went 13 pounds and was 28-29 inches.  Fish hit during last few hours of the outgoing tide, it stopped for half an hour during slack, and started right up again on the incoming.  All fish released.  Our best day on the water in a very long time.

6/6/05  Cpat Denn  Bluefish

We took out the Frank Silvestri party out for a full day charter out of Moriches,Long Island. We had great weather! As we ran out of Forge river I spotted birds working to the west. We ran over to the action and proceeded to have a blast on 2-5 lb. blues on light tackle. we tallied over 30 fish releaseing many more. This action lasted over 1 hour. We left the fish biting and headed east to try for Flounder around harts cove. we anchored up and chummed heavily and used blood worms for bait. we tallied 30 keepers in the 1-2 lb. range with only 6 shorts. Some nice fillets and fine dinners are in the making!  Get in on the action before the season ends the end of the month!

Went fishing Sunday off the hook with my son.  Caught one small blue and
two skates, and that was it.  Heard the blues were running off the beach
around the hook.  Chased the fleet and didn't see a fish caught.  Came back
in and could have walked across the bay on the boats and never touch the
water.  Couple this with the heat and I'm never going out on a Sunday again
until September.  Wow.  Week days are for fishing, weekends are for Bennies.

6/4-5/05  Chas Stamm & Joe Curvino

Went fishing with Joe Curvino this weekend and did well both days on Bass and Bluefish.   The bluefish were small...in the 5 or 6 pound range.  Had more bass than bluefish.  Each day we had about 5 or 6 bass each.  The largest two were of 22 and 25 pounds.  Most bass were in the ten pound range.  A couple of 12 to 15 pound bass. Most were in the lower sections of the East River using Charlie rigs on the bottom.  BOththe incoming and outgoing produced fish.  All fish released.

Fished on Southbranch lake in Pennobscott county and several others in the Belgrade region.

5/30/05  Al White  Blackfish & Sea Bass

I received an invitation along with Glen Blank and Chuck Michel to do some Blackfish and Black Sea Bass fishing from Captain Ralph Roth on his new 25 foot Parker the Weigh Point out of Jersey City. We left the dock at 6:00 AM and headed south past Sandy Hook all the way down to one of Ralph's many spots a few miles off the beach from Deal, NJ. As soon a we drooped the anchor and got our lines in the water we had Black Sea Bass. The larges being over 5 lbs. The next spot produce Blackfish with the larges their being over 9 lbs. By the end of the day we limited out on Blackfish and had 7 or 8 large Black Sea Bass each. On the trip home off Sea Bright NJ we ran into a large school of Bluefish up on top with birds working over them in the 3 to 7 lbs size. We caught fish for about an hour and had to leave because it was getting late. We had a great day bottem fishing and the blues were a bonus.

By the way the Sea Bass and Blackfish was delicious

Fished Saturday May 28 from 6 am to about noon at the Troy Dam.   Herring still
easy to come by, boated several nice shad and one 32 inch striper on a live
herring, which was treated for hook in mouth disease and released.  I thought
the bass was a lot larger than it turned out to be due to the terrific fight it
put up, took about 15 minutes to land it.  Its first run took a least 100 feet
of line of the spool.  Now thats fishing!

Left Rondout Creek Sat am stopped at the Esopus Flats for one last try. Water temp was 59 and the wind was against the tide. There were schools of scattered fish no great shakes. Did manage to release on nice 10 pound channel cat. Left for southern waters Stopped at Newburg nothing doing there. Stopped at liberty state park for fuel. Decided to run down the Staten Island shore line to Great Kills. Never made it. As I made the turn at the VERENZANO it looked to fishy to continue. I made a few look sees just north of Hoffmans Island. Set up just as the incoming was about to start. Set up in 10 foot of water.

Put out three rods and the first few fish I missed didn't have the clam hooked right, but after that it was double and triple headers. One fish was under 28, but the rest were all over 35 inches and three went into the forties. I weighed two one was 25 and the other was 28 pounds. It was the first time that I had to quit because my left arm was hurting from pulling fish in. I released 19 fish and lost or missed another 10. From 2 until 5 30 PM it was non stop and I left them biting. I couldn't pull my anchor and two elderly fishing men came to my assistants and pulled it for me.

I left and ran down to Manasquan to over night at Hoffmans Marina. Sunday went in the river just east of Hoffmans and released 9 short fluke and had to nice keepers 17 and 18 inches. Monday nights supper.

Fishing on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 14:00 from a Boat Body of water - Lower Bay, West Bank location - Staten Island NY Using 30 pound test line and Chunk bunker Weather conditions Calm & Clear Trolled one lure shallow and one deep at the edge of the channel with lots of activity on the fish finder but no hits. Anchored up and put out a bunker chum pot plus some chunks and the whole head of a bunker hooked through the gill covers (thanx for this technique that I picked up at the last meeting). Landed and released one nice striper on the head; it was fun trying to net her with no one else on board. Be aware, Fish and Game were on the water and going boat to boat asking to see what was in the fish box. While I'm not crazy about the rules as they stand today, I'm glad to know someone's out there nailing the stinkers who keep 20 inch bass.

5/16/2005 Dave Keery Striped Bass

Report received: 5/17/05 Water Temperature: . Water Clarity: good Seas: 1 to 2 ft Weather: Sunny but cool Fishing_for: Striped Bass Boat: Easy Go captain: Dave K Report: Got out for the first time this year with my Brother in law Pat Cerria Got a late start because of traffic on his way to boat. Trolled between Weat Bank and Old Orchard lights but saw little action so we moved to the area of the first range buoy where we wound up with 9 fish. 5 stripers and 4 blues. Pat caught a beauty. A striper of about 38 inches , probably 25 lbs and also a double header of bass . All of the other bass were below 24 inches except for one slot fish . We released all the fish but the big one that didn't get away

5/17/05 Phil Kozak Eusopus Flats
Fished Sat on the Esopus flats in 7 to 10 feet of water.South wind against
the tide in the am tagged 3 fish to 14 pounds. Moved around but went back the
same area and lost three good fish and tagged two more 10 and 13 pounds.
Sunday went south again with wind against the tide found a large school just
south of the water treatment plant, but couldn't get set on them. Moved to the
same area as the day before fished in 7 foot of water nothing doing moved to
a channel edge 10 to 14 foot and tagged two fish one 20 pound and one 13 pound
females. Waited for the tide to turn and then wind swung out of the northeast
wind little tidal action We ran out orf bait to the channel cats some
weighing as much as 6 pounds.
I do feel that NY DEC in it infinite wisdom has allowed an overharvest of
large spawning females. This season and last there has been fewer and fewer large
spawning females, but plenty of smaller fish. water temp rose to 58 degrees
by Sunday afternoon.
I would just pose one question to the DEC.
Why do they protect the fresh water species such as Black Bass, small mouth
and large mouth with closed seasons during their spawning times and neglect to
do the same for the Striped Bass?????

Fished clams and chum on Romer Shoal, from my friend John's boat, for the middle four hours of a strong outgoing tide.  No action at all; skates finally moved in and we decided to troll back to Atlantic Highlands around 2 PM.  John picked up a nice fat striper, 31 inches and plenty of fight.  Radio reports showed stripers were spotty, lots of blues in the bay.

5/8/05 Phil Kozak Roundout Creek

Launched Pocket Rocket Friday for Sat morning fishing trip. Wind out of the north 10 to 20. Tide against the wind. Found large schools of fish on the east shore in the dep water. Set up south of the bridge in 11 ft of water. Temp 51.4 degrees. Tried for a hour nothing moved to south bay nothing there. One charter boat on west shore said fish were there, but had moved. Followed channel north to turkey pt. and around nothing. Went down the west shore and over to the east shore nothing there. Moved south to espous flats fish in the deep channel moving north. I didn't think they would move against the tide, but these fish seemed to be moving north. Set on bar inside green can  had fish under the boat. This was after 2pm and wind and tide were together. One fish 36 inches guess weight  15 to 17 pounds. That was it plenty of eels. Temp went up to 53.5 as the sun heated up the river.
Sunday was to windy for me to go out by myself did some work that was needed on the boat and tackle.

I still am not in the water, but with a little luck I should start fishing this weekend. I have spoken to several anglers and the larger females again are not up river yet. Seems to be the same as last year, Spoke to one charter captain and he has not seen a major school so far this year. Seems the trollers are catching the smaller fish. One group of three brought in three, but nothing of size. Black Creek area is the hot spot. Several boats had one large female. Also Certified Marine still isn't selling fuel yet and I noticed that not that many boats were at their marina. I have been told that Roburties up by the falls is able to sell fuel. The herring run is still going on. I have heard complaints that there is heavy netting going on at the falls. Some feel this does not bode well for future runs as they don't give them time to spawn. DEC should learn how to manage the river for all species. Also their have been complaints of higher dockage fees. This could be why not that many transient boats are not here. There could be a need for the higher fees due to the major damage that ocurred. River temps approaching 56 degrees and nearing spawning temps

Fished Piermont Pier in Rockland County, NY this morning from 7-9 am.  Pretty gray and a little drizzle. Very choppy on the north side.  Caught one really nice sized white catfish (maybe 18 ") on bloodworms. Alot of hits from perch stealing bait.  Saw no stripers caught.

4/30/05 Rich Berlingeri Cod Fish Maine

Took the trip to Maine with Arnie and Company. We had a beautiful day. I caught 6 fish two keepers a 5 pound haddock and a 2 pound red fish. I don't want to steal anybody's thunder but most did better than I did. I was awarded the Bunny Clark consolation prize -- the official Bunny Clark "Fisherman with the Hardest Luck" T-shirt, which I will wear proudly-- my luck was down but my spirit never waivered and I fished hard till the Captain said pull 'em up we're heading in!

4/30/05 Joe Palko Sandy Hook Blues

Went out on Friday night about 7:00 PM. to the tip of the hook.  My son picked up a nice sized striper on a whole clam in 35 feet of water.  Wind and waves prevented us from staying out too long so we called it a night.  Went back out on Sunday afternoon and wet some worms.  Both blood and sand worms produced nothing.  Same with clams.  Put on some bunker chunks and started to pick up some nice size blues.  Caught five from five to seven pounds.  Really healthy looking fish.  Clean and strong.  Went back to the ramp to find that the striper fishermen were not thrilled to hear that blues were already in the area.  Marked a lot of fish near the Rt. 36 bridge.  Looked like schools of something.  Couldn’t tell what they were.  Shore fishermen were picking up some big fish at about 7 PM. Clams seemed to be the bait of choice from shore.  Looks like it is picking up in the bay.

4/16/05  River Debris

Arrived in Kingston last Sat. very grueling trip. I have never seen the river so bad with debrie fields 4 and 5 ft wide stretching for hundreds of feet. It started at the upper end of Havestraw bay and continued all the way up to Rondout creek. I would consider the river to dangerous to travel after dark/ The marinas on Rondout have major damage. Certified has gas problems and  won't have gas for another week at least. Rondout lost most of its finger piers and some were damaged also. I took a major hit on the starboard engine just north of Newberg and lost  the lower unit Hauled the boat today and will frind out if I have power head problems to. There is still plenty of heavy debrie coming down the Rondout. Proceed with caution this will eventually get into the lower river. The fish are here with some spawning females being taken. Water temp 51 in the river and 56 in the Rondout/  I marked schools of herring under my boat just before I was hauled

I was fishing with my father for the 1st time in 30 years. Yes I baited my own hook and made the cast myself, with a little coaching from dad. Well alright, a lot of coaching. The last fish I caught was when I was 10 or so and it was a little sun fish, but I was excited and never forgot how proud dad was that I wasn't squeamish. My husband cracked, "wouldn't it be funny if you caught the 1st and only fish" little did he know how right he would be. We were fishing the south shore between the pier and the old ferry slip. It was pretty windy, coming from the south with occasional brief moments of sun. The tide was coming in and there were bouts of whitecaps. Dad said the fish was 20" I was too excited to notice that. It was GREAT! I'm still smiling and can't wait to see the pictures. Thanks dad. I love you.

Hi, took the day off to go fishing with my Dad, Ray who just turned 86.  He caught 7, I caught 6 stipers, all released, all caught on bloods. Fished incoming tide at Croton Point, conditions ranged from partly sunny, to very overcast, light wind at first, picked up pretty good before we left. My Dad caught a 6 lb and 5 lb striper for the best of the day.  Great way to start the season.

Arrived after 5 pm. The fishing report was bad, very few if any fish all day. Well Dave Torres went out to the very end on the concrete part of the pier and the guys out there were doing well. Two phone calls later I was lured out myself and promptly landed one. All told I gather at least 20-30 fish were caught. Funny thing this fishing you never know!

Lot of action as tide changed to outgoing.  Used long leaders and 2/0 hooks with bloods.  Boat next to me did zero until he changed to a longer and lighter leader with a smaller hooks.

The current can move the lighter leader and hook making the bait seem to "drift"

I WAS ON A DRIFT BOAT OFF POMPANO FLORIDA. APPROXIMATLY 2 MILES OFFSHORE ON A BEAUTIFULL MORNING. AIR TEMP ABOUT 65 DEGREES DEPTH OF WATER WAS 80 FEET.
AN INTERESTING AND COMFORTABLE WAY THEY FISH HERE IS THAT ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE BOAT IS USED.
ON THE SECOND DRIFT USING ONLY I OUNCE OF WEIGHT ON A LIGHT/MEDIUM UGLYSTICK AND MY OLD DIAWA 4-1 RETRIEVE ( BOUGHT 20 YEARS AGO) THE COBIA STRUCK. I THOUGHT I SNAGGED ON A WRECK BUT ON THESE FISH YOU DONT HAVE TO SET THE HOOK. HE WAS TAKING MORE LINE THAN I GAINED. I TIGHTEND MY DRAG. FIHING FROM THE BOW, THE COBIA TOOK OFF TO THE STERN, LUCKELY ONE OF THE MATES CLEARED THR WAY FOR ME.THE ROD WAS BENT ALMOST IN HALF. I HUNG ON FOR DEAR LIFE HOPING THE EQUIPMENT WOULD STAND UP, IT DID BETTER THAN ME,SINCE I AM RECOVERING FROM A HEART ATTACK IN OCTOBER I HANDED THE ROD TO THE MATE TO FINISH IT OFF.BACK UP TOWARD THE BOW, RAN THE FISH. THIS TIME THE WAY WAS CLEAR. I HELD ON FOR 15 MINUTES AND THE MATE NEEDED 10 UNTIL IT WAS GAFFED AND BROUGHT ABOARD.
NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE ABOUT 15 POUNDS OF FILLET IN THE FREEZER.
THE FISH WEIGHED 42 POUNDS AND WAS 5FT, 6 INCHES.
IT TASTES A BIT LIKE SWORD FISH.
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS SENDIMG PICTURES SO IT WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL I CAN CORRECT THE PROBLEM.

On a recent scuba trip to the island of Utila off Honduras, I could not resist spending at least a few hours fishing with my new friend   Gene.  I've never been fishing for baracuda before and I can tell you they are terrific fighters.  Using an old rental spinning outfit with a faulty drag and 12 lb test mono, the fish pictured took a good fifteen minutes to get to the boat.  We landed 3 to about 36 inches (no ruler onboard) and lost probably 10 on runoffs.  We saw some of the most spectacular jumps I've ever seen.  A great way to help cure my winter blues!

Feb 2, 2005  John Vargo  Croton  Striped Bass

I was on the water yesterday afternoon behind Croton Point in a 12 foot boat. Water temperature was between 38 and 40 degrees. The bay was empty of ice but the coves were frozen. As a matter of fact the boat ramp had piles of snow blocking it but one guy spent all day chopping a way through it.  We were in three feet of water.

Using two treble hook sinking rappala's.  Clown color.  The first bite which my partner got, I thought he had a log as it would not move. Then it did, and it swirled near the boat.  WE WERE SHOCKED TO SEE A HUGE STRIPER ON THE LINE.  We usually cattach 20 to 40 stripers in the 18" to 12 pound range.  Dennis fought the fish for 15 minutes and could not get him near the boat. He or she finally broke off.  It was slow fishing but the next one we did get to the boat, 39" 30 pounds in the net.

I caught only one fish, however that one had a 5 to 100 reward tag in it.  I have never seen fish that big behind Croton Point.

Fished the hard water again on Sunday, 25
degrees, brilliant sunshine, light winds.  Nearly two weeks of below zero
thickened the ice to about a foot.  Four pickerel 12 to 16 inches, one small
bass.  Tried fishing the deepwater just below the ice, but nothing.  Oh well,
everybody knows trout are just an illusion anyway.  Kurt bought a little
propane heater that warmed the tent up to shirtsleeve temps.  Maybe try up
north somewhere next weekend, anywhere to get away from these pickerel!  Just
heard the ice on Lake George is 8 inches.

Fished through the ice with Curt from about noon to 3:30.  Thirty degrees, heavy
snow, no wind.  Ice still only 3-4 inches due to the warm weather.  Curt set up
a tent for shelter from the snow.  Using tip ups and minnows pulled three
pickerel and one large mouth through the holes.  The bass was about 14 inches,
the largest pickerel about 18.  All went back through the holes to their ice
water mansions.  Only one other guy fishing, he was saying he gets trout and
kokanee in the spring trolling a wabler and worm.  I've never caught one of
those in Glass Lake, but may bring the fish finder and try the deep water next
time.

Fishin' Mission --  Fished Sunday 1/09/05   ( yes January! )  On  Paul H's Renagade  with Paul & Captain Glenn Blank.  What a great day to be on the water in January.  Light winds and moderate tempetures.  When we first started fishing we got 4 schoolie stripers right away.  We started the usual high 5's, but then the action stopped for a while.  We tried off the Rockaways since it was so nice out, but no action.  Then Glenn suggests we try one of his secret hot spots.  I'm thinking "yeah sure"  anything you say.  Well we were all suprised when we started catching large fish there.  Glenn had 4 keeper size bass to 33 & 1/2 inches, I sneaked out 3 nice ones and Paul landed a nice one.  We had a total of only 17 stripers, but considering the time of the year and the large fish it was another great day on the NY Harbor.  Glenn was high hook as usual.  Don't try to bribe me for his secret spot since I took an oath of secretcy.  All fish were released and most tagged.  The only other boat we spotted fishing was none other than the King of the Harbor Howie!  I attached some pictures Paul took with his digital camera.  Tight Lines --  It ain't over till the fat striper sings!

1/7/05 Joe, the three j's Florida largemouth

I know I said my previous report was my last but I was visiting family in Florida and I did some largemouth bass fishing. I’m not really a freshwater fisherman but where my family lives there are little lakes and canals that are loaded with fish, nobody really fishes for them, so I tried my luck, a 10 day total of 191 fish from 8 inches to 22 inches, an hour and a half in the early morning then again right before the sun goes down are the best times. I was using top water plugs and gold spoons, fish were jumping on them, it was like blue fishing, you would see birds diving then bait spraying out of the water then the large mouths chasing the bait, it was la lot of fun.  Joe The 3 J’s

Fished through about four inches of black clear ice today, using tip ups and
minnows.  Cloudy, mid thirties, stiff NW wind.  Caught five pickerel, 12 to 24
inches, the biggest was about three pounds.  As they say, first ice is best.
Resolved to only go one day a weekend from here on out, have to get some chores
done before spring,a nd to pay attention to the weather reports, that wind is
no fun.

12/25/04 Fishin' Mission  , after talking to Captain Glenn Blank describe his Christmas day, yes your heard me right , these lunatics fished on Christmas!   Glenn fished with Paul H  on the Renagade Christmas Day for a total of 55 schoolies stripers, with the largest a 27 & 1/2 incher with a Pink belly tag from the Maryland fisheries, caught by Paul who is catching on fast, from his teacher Glenn!  I took these guys up on their offer to fish with them Sunday 12/26/04, yes these nuts fished 2 days in a row!  Despite very windy conditions  we still had a great time, joking around and landing 36 schoolies before the wind and snow sqwals got too bad!  Glenn showed off and out fished me by 3 fish, he caught another with an HRF belly tag.  Paul sure has a nice boat, and that semi heated cabin saved us all from frost bite!!   Made my 22 footer seem like a surf board!  Tight Lines to all and have Happy Holidays!

12/19/04Fishin' Mission  fished Sunday 12/19/04  well less than a week before Christmas and the stripers are still biting like crazy.  The weather was perfect most of the day, with light winds and mid 40 temps.  The NY Harbor water tempetures were between 42 -- 44 degrees on the surface.  Only the hardcore diehards are out here this time of year.  The team of Captian Glenn Blank and Paul H on the Renagade were bangging away, they had a total of 87  schoolie stripers.  Glenn had to leave early and Paul went back out to make sure he caught just 1 more than GlennI myself caught over 50 schoolie stripers.  Glenn and I were tagging most of our fish.  Glenn also caught a striper with a pink belly tag from Maryland.  As it started to get dark the weather started to get bad with the rain and wind picking up.  Paul and myself had to do the hardest thing a fisherman can do!  And that's to leave them still biting!

12/17/04 Joe from the 3J’s:  This is my last report of the season, I decided to go down to Seaside Park and do some surf fishing. I got 5 stripers up to 24 inches, there were acres of birds working in the area of the fun town pier, but the fish were just beyond casting distance, every once in a while fish would come in for about 1 or 2 minutes and then every one hooked up then it went dead, you had to be lucky to be in the right spot when this occurred to catch fish. This was my last hurrah!  At least I didn’t get skunked, not bad for the week before Christmas, the weather was great high 40’s a little wind but not that bad,  too bad the fishing wasn’t a little better but anyway Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all and have a healthy and good winter see you in the spring.  Joe the 3J’s.

Fishin' Mission  fished Sunday 12/5/04  It was breezy but fishable, fished the NY Harbor and I caught, landed and released 106 schoolie striped bass.  These are small fish ranging from 12"  to 24"  .  Other hardcore club members were out there along side catching too.  Captain Glenn Blank was not only catching 1 after another, but he was tagging most of them too.  The Renagade with Paul and Al White AKA Sparky were  catching every time I looked over at them.  And ofcourse the team of Gan Wong and Joe Nardello were catching like there was no tommorrow.  Once again my fingers are all covered with bandaids to keep the blood off this keyboard!   Tight Lines to all!

Six friends chartered the "Right-A-Way" with Capt. Tom Joseph out of Belmar. After anchoring once over a rockpile, we picked away all morning puttingn together a limit catch of solid keepers. We only had 4 to 6 fish over 5lbs. The pool winner was a whistle fish.

11/30/04  FISHIN' MISSION  Fished Tuesday 11/30/04  It was one of those days, when you just can't go to work!   Zero wind, and reasonable tempetures.  I personal caught and landed and released  129 yes one hundred twenty nine ( I counted with a pad and pen )  schoolie stripers from 11 inches to 26 inches.  Plus an additional large amout were lost at the boat which I did not count.   As my friend Squid Joe says  " not in the boat, doesn't count "!  All fish were caught in NY Harbor and surrounding areas, drifting not anchored!    Hope the weather holds out so I can do it all over again.  My fingers are so cut up and sore from handling all those fish I can barely type this.   ( I'm sure you all feel sorry for me )

11/27/04 Lower Harbor Bass Chas Stamm Paul Hellmold Al White.    Fished with A couple of HRFA members today with some great results putting up with some tough winds.  The winds were cold and blowing hard as we tried outside the Vz. bridge.  We were in Paul's 25 foot Parker.  Nice to have the cabin to get out of the elements.  Tried several spots along Norton's Point and Breezy point but only picked up a couple of schoolie bass.  Coming back in to the lower harbor to get away from the winds, we picked up several bass between 12 and fifteen pounds with Paul bringing in one bass weighing 18 pounds.  Outgoing tide with a strong southern winds made conditions tough.  Live eels and small diamond jigs were the baits we used.

11/23/04 Fishin' Mission  well I know all you report junkies wanna know how me and club member Pete Orenzo did on Tuesday  November 23, 2004   This time I counted  I had 59 stripers from 18 inches to 28 inches.  And I'm sure Pete had about the same since we were trying to out do each other all day!  We would of had more except Gary with the Baja boat called us while we were working pods of fish off Coney Island to "quick hurry" to the tip of Sandy Hook, for miles of fish and birds.  Well club member and Captain Glenn Blank was fishing near by and we both ran out for this school of fish of a life time!   Well as we arrived they had just dispersed, not a bird or fish.  Ohh well we still like ya Gary!  Ran back North and continues to jig fish with Glenn Blank, Gan Wong, & Ed Scola Jr. all fishing and catching near by, until it got dark.

11/21/04 FISHIN' MISSION  Fished the New York Harbor  Sunday 11/21/04  .   This is schoolie striper season!  It's very possible to jig over 100 stripers a day!  Everyone was catching, club member Pete Orenzo brought a friend on his boat who claimed it was the best day of fishing he ever had! ( boy was Pete doing a number on that guy, outfishing him 10 to 1 )   Saw lots of other members catching too!  Gan Wong was into fish all day as he usually does.  The crew on the Renagade was catching.  Captains Glenn Blank and Ralph Roth ran out and came back with loads of  big blackfish.  The best fisherman on the river A/K/A  Howard Leeman was off to one of his secret spots to catch large stripers.  Glenn Cinelli  with his boat Cast Iron  ran out to Coney Island for some nice bigger stripers on the jigs.  Tight Lines to all,  me and Pete are ditching work Tuesday to do it all over again!!!

Hey, Al. Glen asked me to send You info on the fish I caught friday. She was caught on 20lb braid with a shimano- 251 on a live eel, that I beat the boat a few times. The fish, after being hooked for a few min., realized it was hooked and ran off 60+ YARDS STRAIGHT UNDER THE BOAT! with the line rubbing the hull the whole time. Managed to get the motor up and transfered the fight to the other side. The rest was the normal tug-of-war of give and take. Dad only needed one shot after, he found the big net.Just stoped to marks on fish finder, caught two fish(the ohter one was 39")Dad fillet and released both.

Fished incoming tide from 2:30-5Pm on Sunday 11/07/04 300 yards South of Tappan Zee. One line with frozen herring and the other with bloodworms.  Caught 11 perch and 6 small striped bass(13-16 inches)on bloodworms. One 12 lb bluefish on herring. Surprised about the bluefish.  Figured water was too cold. Took a beating from the waves.  Nice quick trip!  Better than heading down to the East River!

11/6 & 7/ 04 Joe Nardello Lower Harbor Stripers and Blues

The weekend of Nov 6th & 7th fishing report from the 3 J’s. I was out both days did o.k. Wind, Wind, freakin wind can’t seem to get away from it, Saturday was very windy, wind against tide, had to power drift to catch fish, got 12 bass up to 36 inches and 5 bluefish up to 34 inches. On Sunday morning early there was no wind a gorgeous day got 14 bass up to 36 inches and 1 bluefish about 32 inches.one striper about 34 inches had a littoral soc. Tag attached. It seems that once we passed this last full moon and the swing of the tides the fishing started to pick up, hopefully the rest of the month is good for fishing.

11/2/04  FISH'IN MISSION

fished Tuesday 11/2/04.  It was one of those days that all fishermen dream about!  You leave in your boat not knowing exactly how the day will turn out.  Got tired of the East River & NY Harbor so...  I headed south to the Rockaways and to Raritan Bay.  Well I was into fish from 7:30 AM right until I left em' biting at 2:30 PM!!!!  No bait -- just jigged stripers and blues.  I figure well over 100  yes ONE HUNDRED  fish, no real big stripers, mostly in the upper 20 inch range and some real large blues, biggest was 15.5 pounds at 35.5 inches!!  Club members ( The 3 Amigos )  Capt. Glenn Blank, Capt. Ralph Roth and Darren Cardinal, showed up on Darren's Parker just as the bite slowed.  Well Capt. Ralph who never gets out done spotted some birds with his binoculars off in the distance and we all ran out for another slam fest of bass and blues.  Capt. Ralph even managed to show off with a 3 pound fluke caught on a jig!!  I actually left them biting as the 3 Amigos kept catching.   All fish were released, alot tagged.   You have to be careful around Captain Glenn or he might tag you!!

Tight Lines to all!
